TurboCADables.com - Tweaked TurboCAD Brush Style Table

INTRODUCTION...

Have you noticed that some hatch patterns in TurboCAD v3 to v9 are identical? And that some patterns don't look right?

Many of the hatch patterns released with TurboCAD v3 to v9 are actually duplicates of pre-existing patterns that were introduced in earlier versions of TurboCAD. Start TurboCAD, create a closed entity (say a rectangle) in a new drawing, and hatch it with the CONCRETE_1 hatch pattern; now hatch it with CONC. Any difference? Compare CONCRETE_2 with CONCRETE. Many brick patterns are also duplicated.

Not only that, some hatch patterns just don't look right. The PARQUET1 hatch pattern should actually be part of the PARQUETTE1 pattern. Not as obvious are other hatch patterns that aren't visible or available because they clobber each other; this results from different hatch patterns with the same name in the TurboCAD brush style table.

As much as I like TurboCAD, hatch anomalies like those described above are caused by inconsistencies in the default brush style table released with TurboCAD v3 to v9. The hatch anomalies are not difficult to correct, so I've provided two "options" as two accompanying ASCII text files:

  1. TurboCAD-hatches-with-dups.txt - This option (1) fixes different hatch patterns that clobber each other, yet retains duplicate hatch patterns.
  2. TurboCAD-hatches-no-dups.txt - This option (2) also fixes different hatch patterns that clobber each other, but removes all duplicate hatch patterns.

I recommend option 2; option 1 is for folks who prefer the new TurboCAD hatch pattern names even though the pattern itself is a duplicate. (Other "options" are possible; I'm receptive to suggestions...)

INSTALLATION...

To install, follow the instructions below:

Please note that the "tweak" will work for new drawings created with the TurboCAD factory default settings, and for new drawings based on templates created with the fixed brush style table. You may still encounter hatching anomalies when working on existing drawings or when using templates that were created with the TurboCAD default brush style table.

Finally, I haven't encountered any problems using the tweaked brush style table - but sorry, I cannot be held responsible for problems you think result from using the tweaked brush style table.

HOW TO UNINSTALL...

To "uninstall" the tweaked brush style table, restore your backed up TurboCAD INI file. Note that when drawing files and templates are first created, they inherit and retain whatever brush style table was in the INI file.
